D’Amo for CAT/POS Security – Penta Security Releases New Solution
Penta Security Systems Inc. in Seoul, Korea, at the forefront of IT security with its data encryption and web security technologies, announced its intentions to strengthen CAT/POS security with its new D’Amo solution, targeting CAT/POS transactions. Penta Security plans to achieve this goal by incorporating the latest security standards for CAT/POS terminals.
Point-of-sale (POS) terminals are electronic devices used to process card payments. They read the information and data on the card. Cardholder-activated terminals (CATs) are unattended terminals that accept payment options (like credit cards).
Need for CAT/POS Security
Following recent exploits of CAT/POS terminals, the robustness of existing security measures for these systems have been called into question. In 2013, the U.S. retailers Target and Home Depot suffered heavy losses, the former incurring 40 million personal information leakages, and the latter having debit/credit card information exposed by malicious codes infecting its POS system. Other companies have also suffered major losses throughout the years. As a result, relevant security regulations, such as EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) and KTC (Korea Testing Certification), have become increasingly stringent.
D’Amo for CAT/POS Systems
Penta Security’s D’Amo for CAT/POS systems provides data encryption, partial encryption, DB encryption and key management as its main functions. D’Amo can help organizations meet international standards for CAT/POS security (protection of card information, password ciphering/generation/distribution, password access control/destruction, etc.) with its encryption protocols that have incorporated CAT/POS terminal security standards and ANSI X9.24.
Duk-Soo Kim, Penta Security’s Research Director and Chief Technological Officer, remarked the following: “We are delighted to contribute to secure POS systems with our solution.” Mr. Kim added, “As a leading company in IT security, we will continue to push capabilities to prevent the exposure of important personal information, by cooperating closely with the finance industry.”
