1. Large-Scale Cyberattack Targets Russian Banks, Disrupts Services

Ukraine has launched a massive cyberattack against ATMs of Russian banks, the cyber operation began on July 23. This large-scale cyberattack on Russian banks has severely disrupted banking operations across Russia, leaving customers unable to withdraw cash and access other financial services. The debit and credit cards of many bank customers were immediately blocked when they attempted to use ATMs. The attack included freezing bank payment systems and mobile applications, causing outages in personal offices, and preventing payments for public transport. Other Russian banks reportedly affected by the attacks include Alfa Bank, Rosbank and Post Bank.

2. Los Angeles Superior Court shuts down after ransomware attack

The largest trial court in the United States, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, closed all 36 courthouse locations on Monday (July 22nd) to restore systems affected by a Friday (July 19th) ransomware attack. The systems impacted by the shutdown include the court’s entire operation process, including external systems like the court’s website and jury duty portal, and internal systems like the court’s case management systems. The Court added that it found no evidence that any data on the breach systems was compromised and that it’s currently working with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and assess its impact.

3. Michigan Medicine data breach exposes personal and health information of 57,000 individuals

The academic medical center of the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine, suffered a data breach that impacted 56,953 patients. The security incident exposed the personal and health information of the patients, such as identifiable patient and/or insurance guarantor information,” including names, medical record numbers, addresses, dates of birth, diagnostic and treatment information, and/or health insurance information. Michigan Medicine notified patients of the data breach. The threat actors accessed the employee email accounts on May 23 and May 29. AIn response to the incident, the organization blocked the IP address used by the attackers, and forced a password reset on the impacted accounts.
